PostHeaderIcon Helicopter ride or standing in line to see NYC, Statue of Liberty, Empire State, etc?

nyc helicopter

I am debating whether standing in line for hours to see the statue of liberty and empire state building is really worth it when we can just take a 15 min. helicopter ride around the City…we only have 5 days.

5 days is plenty of time to see lots of stuff. You really do not get an apprieciation for the greatest city on earth unless you are on the ground and see the people that make it. I am sure a helicopter ride would give very nice views, but the actual walking to locations will provide a better experience of NYC than actually being at them.

It’s a totally different experience. I’ve done both. The helicopter ride gives you a wonderful vista, and you get a sense of the whole city. And it’s a little bit scary, so exciting.

Going up the Empire State Building you get the same view, basically, but also a sense of history. And if you’re a movie buff it’s a must. (An Affair to Remember, Sleepless in Seattle)

Same historical thing about the Statue. But if you’re going to climb it, bring comfy shoes, water, and some stamina.

Take a cruise around the city. I was there last year and took a city lights cruise that last 2 1/2 hours. You leave before sunset from the hudson river and see the staute of liberty and then down around battery park and up the east river returning after sunset to see the city at it’s best all lite up.

These cruise can run under $30. I can’t remember the company I used but I paid $22/person a year ago. This get’s you really close to the Statue of Liberty.

The Statue of Liberty area is so much more than the Statue. You can see up inside it and also go to Ellis Island, which is very cool. You should have plenty of time to do both the helicopter and other things, too. The Statue of Liberty can be done by 3:00 to leave other things fror the afternoon/evening. Going in from the Jersey side in Liberty State Park is quite a bit faster than through Manhattan, but it takes time to get there as well.
