I’m considering a helicopter flight when visiting Las Vegas (to see Grand Canyon & The Strip). More info below?

*I don’t need anything fancy (I don’t need champagne or lunch, or even to land IN the Grand Canyon, and if it makes it cheaper, I don’t need limo transfers, as we will have a hire car)
*I’m on a budget
*I just want to see the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas from the air
(possibly at sunset, but not picky)
I’ve checked out Papillon and Sundance.
Too expensive, and have all this extra stuff I don’t really need.
Can anyone recommend a smaller company, that does a basic flight?
But that are still professional and reliable.

I think I heard, because of air traffic in the area, only certain companies are allowed to fly over. It is a very popular thing to do. There are noise considerations, too. Better to get a video of it, than risk your life. Yes, there have been accidents.
Take the donkey ride, instead.
trips are not a la carte.. most of the trips are basically what they tell you
and ity would cost a lot more if you hired a private tour..
also i orefer the Grand Canyon at sunrise
A couple of things
What sweetpea was alluding to is the fact that there is a very strictly enforced No Fly Zone over much of GCNP
The NF Zone that is over what’s called the Heart of the Canyon was put into into effect to insure that selfish Canyon hikers like me would get to experience as much of the deafening silence of the Canyon as is possible w/o being interrupted by the noise of aircraft
There is also a safety reason
Below IFR altitudes the airspace above GCNP is all VFR >see and be seen >and before the new rules were implemented flying below RIm was allowed and every so often there would be collisions or near misses >OOPS!!
The new rules went into effect [ and don’t hold me to the exact altitude But I pretty sure that flying within 5000 vertical feet of the Rim is prohibited as is landing any aircraft anywhere in GCNP unless it’s on official business
Also helos out of LAS simply don’t have the range to make GCN>so ask them exactly what part of the Canyon that they plan to fly over
If you don’t want to drive* then your next best option is to fly on Scenic Airlines Pick thru their various tour packages and see which one works best for you
Have fun
* If you want to drive there is a really neat loop that looks like this
Pop this into mapquest
LAS>GCN>Lees Ferry AZ> Mount Carmel Junction UT> LAS
Its good to have a good view of Grand Canyon & The Strip, depending on how much you payed for the service, there are many company’s. A helicopter flight might be a little expensive but it great scenic views.
