When looking at the sites, find out where they fly out from. The quickest if it takes off from Las Vegas and not Boulder City or another airport. Some take off from McCarran and some from N. Las Vegas which will get you there quicker. The drive to the Grand Canyon is about 7 hours long depending on road conditions. Check out this site for a diverse selection of Canyon trips.

We took a helicopter tour from Boulder City airport, with Papillon. It was great, and I highly recommend it. They picked us up at the hotel, drove us to the airport, we took our trip, and then they brought us back. I liked being able to see the Canyon without investing an entire day or two in the trip.

Rent a car and drive it. I have done that trip so many times that I’ve honestly lost count and the only time that I’ve even come close to doing it in 7 hours was under blizzard conditions on I-40 between Flagstaff and Ash Fork AZ
Figure on a 4.5-5 hour trip
If you leave LAS early then it’s 2 hours to Kingman [get gas] +90 minutes to Williams AZ +60 minutes to the South Entrance of GCNP
If you want to do a flight then find Papillion out of GCN
You should be aware of the fact that there is a huge No Flight Zone over GCNP [Google it ] which not only limits what areas of the Park that you can fly over But also what minimum altitudes must be maintained during that flight
It’s also illegal to fly below the Rims of the Canyon [big rock walls+VFR are a bad combo ]and to land anywhere in it except of course for official business like S&R
As far as the N.Las Vegas vs Boulder City Airports “controversy ” is concerned the only real adavantage that NLV has over BC is that it’s about 20-30 minutes closer to the Strip
The disadvantage is that flights out of NLV are going to have to spend 15 minutes flying over the Las Vegas Metroplex [and dodging military & commercial traffic ] until they reach Lake Mead/ Hoover Dam
Flights out of BC on the other hand are over Lake Mead /Hoover Dam almost immediatley after take-off
I’m guessing that one reason that some air tour companies moved to BC was to reduce their fuel costs .
            History note:
Hoover Dam was originally called Boulder Dam
Boulder city was built to house the peoplewho were building the dam

Driving back and forth or by bus is a day trip a full day trip, so if you want the best take a copter there. Boulder City is over an hour drive from Strip, but there is nothing wrong with the service there.

Rent a car. That’s all you need to do. It’s not that far away. I’ve been there in car, we were there for the whole day, and we came back the same day before 11:00p.m.
